And it\u2019s the best kind of history, since it\u2019s infused with equal parts artistic influences and cultural legacies, expressed by an artist who wears it all on his sleeve. When he pulls back, cranes up, and unfurls the view in historical narratives such as \u201cCasino Sunrise,\u201d he creates a busy scene of fact and fiction. Of course it\u2019s unreal. But one quickly sees how creative exaggeration, what Jim has referred to as \u201cmythological narrative,\u201d is one of his best weapons. By using it here, like his favorite Surrealists, he is better able to bring stories from the past into contact with a present where some things, unfortunately and amusingly, have not changed. ”<\/p>\n

Wenn er – wie ein Kameramann – erst zur\u00fcckf\u00e4hrt, dann die Vogelperspektive einnimmt und seine Ansichten in historischen Narrativen entfaltet wie in \u201eCasino Sunrise\u201c, gestaltet er eine lebhafte Szenerie aus Fakten und Fiktion. Nat\u00fcrlich hat das alles nicht genauso stattgefunden. Aber man erkennt sofort, dass diese Art der \u00dcbertreibung, die Jim als \u201emythologisches Narrativ\u201c bezeichnet, eine seiner besten Waffen ist.
